Bad Spirits

I heard a story that folks used to put bottles around their gardens to capture bad spirits and keep them from spoiling their plants. After the harvest, the bottles would be taken and smashed, to be rid of the spirits once and for all.

I doubt its truth, but they make for nice decorations.
